Chess Set
Each playing piece comprises
of one or more hand polished solid pewter castings, mounted on an underfelted
resin base.The contrasting finishes are broze and ivorine, against antiqued
pewter and ebony.
The gaslight gameboard is of
solid oak, inlaid with ivorine and ebony resin "cobblestone tiles", with
black enamelled pewter gas lamps at each corner, and fitted with aged pewter
coffin furniture.
The Latin plaque translates
as
"Life is but an alchemical game,
played during the interval between birth and death"
